The activity was launched on April 19, 2020, in the framework of empowering local farmers with the ability to have modern seeds for multiplication and distribution in different sectors including Rushaki, Kaniga, Rubaya and Cyumba sector. Prior to that activity, 200 hectares of terraces were made and Irish potato seeds were planted on 92 hectares.
On May 07th, 2020, a similar activity was launched for the plantation of sweet potato seeds on a surface of 21 hectares.
The sweet potato seeds which were planted is the variety of orange sweet potato (Kabode) and yellow sweet potato enriched with Vitamin A. Some of these varieties help prevent vision loss and improve health and are used to fight against malnutrition and stunting.
Throughout the activity which concluded on May 17,2020, RAB gave 1,205,055 seeds to farmers as an intervention to fight COVID-19 effects
