Overview and Background

The Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB) - GISHWATI Station was established by LAW N°14/2017 OF 14/04/2017.
The law specifies that: RAB’s Station has the general mission of championing the agriculture sector development into a knowledge based; technology driven and market oriented industry, using modern methods in crop, animal, fisheries, forestry and soil and water management in food, fibre and fuel wood production and processing. But the specific mandate for station of RAB enabling it to carry out research, agricultural or animal resources extension at the level of farmers and which has the powers to manage both the staff and the property located in that zone.


 Gishwati Station is one of thirteen Stations of RAB working in Ngororero and Nyabihu districts.
 It locates in Western Province, Nyabihu district, Mulinga sector, Gakamba cell. It has two working sites; Gatindori site measuring 208 ha reserved exclusively by cattle livestock and PNAP site with 100 ha which one part is reserved for agriculture mainly potato seed production and another for livestock.

As the one of the Stations of the whole country helps RAB to reach its goals and missision. It promotes research and extension in Agriculture and animal resources by making a focus on research for efficiency and effective productivity.
A part on station activities, Gishwati station is coordinating all agricultural and livestock activities in two district NYABIHU and NGORORERO. .In agriculture, the station is in collaboration of districts, is conducting in global :Crop Intensification Program (CIP), Small Scale Irrigation Program (SSIT) etc.

In Crop Intensification Program (CIP) focus on Gishwati Station, districts and stakeholders in agriculture is also conducting all activities rerated for preparing farmers  seasons.
