Collaboration between RAB and REMCO for agriculture mechanization development

On 27th September, 2019, Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB) officially entered into a collaboration partnership with Rwanda Engineering & Manufacturing Corporation (REMCO) Ltd, a Government of Rwanda’s owned company established in 2018 to manufacture most of the equipment and parts that are regularly imported, and promote “Made in Rwanda” campaign.

The Heads of both institutions, Patrick KARANGWA (PhD) and Eng. John RUGAMBA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the objectives of (i) sharing inventories (machines/farms) and data for efficient planning, (ii) extending collaboration to other development clusters involved in the agriculture sector, (iii) capacity building for both REMCO and RAB engineers, (iv) partnership in market research and requirements identification, and (v) maintenance and repair of existing machines and equipment.

Aligned with the Strategic Plan for Agriculture Transformation (PSTA) IV, this collaboration partnership will boost RAB and REMCO’s dedication to avail machines that respond to challenges identified in the agricultural sector, particularly in soil cultivation, planting, irrigation, postharvest handling and management, to increase productivity for farmers on one hand, and to brand Rwanda on the other hand as a hub for agricultural engineering and manufacturing.
