On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB) was honored to receive H.E. Hailemariam Desalegn, Board Chair of Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) for a working visit at Rubona Station, Huye District.

H.E. Desalegn and his delegation, had a briefing with Dr. Patrick KARANGWA, RAB Director General, and toured agricultural research activities including the analytical (soil, water & plant) and plant pathology laboratories, the National Gene Bank of Rwanda, and the banana field germplasm conservation.

H.E. Desalegn expressed appreciation about collaboration between RAB and AGRA, especially in regard to development of early generation seed, and domestic seed production.

“AGRA works in eleven African countries, in Rwanda we normally support the seed development project, with this support we are giving, I came to see whether our support is yielding a result or not. I am very happy that we are successful.’’ H.E Desalegn said.

Dr. KARANGWA, RAB Director General, commended the good partnership with AGRA in interventions related to institutional and human capacity development, plant and soil research programs, financial awards/grants to private sector actors, and implementation of national policy frameworks.

Rwanda is one of eleven AGRA priority countries under its current strategy (2017-2021), and has for the last decade, benefitted through RAB, capacity building of scientists (7 PhDs and 17 MSc), and research for development programs worth around USD 4 million.
