RAB Through Twigire Muhinzi Trains 14000 Farmer Promoters on agricultural practices

RAB through Twigire Muhinzi is conducting training of Farmer Promoters, FFS facilitators, SEDOs, Agro-dealers and sector agronomists across the country. The training is focusing on season preparation for priority crops in 2022B, and trainees are equipped with enough skills on good agricultural practices including field selection and preparation, fertilizer application (when, how and quantity), planting on line, spacing, staking, diseases and pest control and post harvest handling. Trainees are also trained on proper planning and after each session they do a practical work to see if they master what they are expected to deliver.

The training is done at sector level and FPs, FFS, SEDOs, Agro-dealers and sector agronomists are trained on the priority crops planned in their respective Districts/Sectors in 2022B.

During the training, seeds and fertilizers are being distributed to Farmer Promoters to establish demo plots of beans and soybean. A total of 2712 demo plots of beans and 1920 demo plots of soybean are planned in the season 2022B. Trainees are also given extension materials.

According to the Pulses and Oil Crops Program Coordinator Dr Rurangwa Edouard, the establishment of many demo plots is one of the best ways that allow rapid penetration of quality seeds among farmers.

It is expected that more than 14000 Farmer promoters will be trained in the country and will in turn train their fellow neighbors at demo sites.
