On 15th November 2022, the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization-Rwanda Chapter and Rwanda Standard Board, kicked off a month-long training of beekeepers in Musanze, Rwanda and Huye District on standardizing and improving the quality of honey products.
During the training, participants discussed pre-requisite actions needed to ensure the safety and quality of honey, proper placement of equipment and materials to avert cross-contamination, how to use the services of Rwanda Standard Board to handle, process, store and transport honey products in a hygienic condition, among other topics.
Speaking at the training, Mathlide Mukasekuru, the Acting Director General for Livestock at the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, called up beekeepers to uphold the standards& quality of honey products in order to gear up the development of beekeeping.
The training targeted 100 master beekeepers from Akagera, Nyungwe, Virunga and Gishwati.
